Job Description: Based out of the WHIMZEES injection molded facility for dental dog threats in Veendam, NL, this position will lead the execution of WHIMZEES product development and mature WellPet’s expertise in injection molding and dental health. The R&D Technologist will be responsible for leading the development of new product innovations, improve dental health and delight the consumer. Engineering experience and technical expertise in injection molding is a must. As this position reports remotely to the VP of R&D (USA- Eastern Standard Time), the ability to work with limited day to day direction is required.


Position responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver new injection molded products out of natural ingredients to drive best in class dental health, while meeting financial benchmarks

• Invent product or process attributes that result in improved dental or general health benefits  Collaborate with Operations, Quality, and external partners to ensure successful product launches and yield improvement opportunities

• Leverage knowledge in plastics’ processing and product design to evaluate and select equipment  Advance WellPet’s understanding of the behavior of natural ingredients when injection molded

• Research and evaluate the feasibility of new products and processes

• Utilize the scientific method to gather evidence to inform business decisions and make sound technical recommendations

• Create product specification, quality standard, and acceptance criteria

• Identify and leverage external resources to increase WellPet’s technical capabilities

• Contribute R&D perspective in cross-functional project teams

• Lead and execute R&D projects that involve international suppliers and consultants

• Assist with supplier evaluations and qualifications

• Manage project teams and show leadership by holding peers accountable for deliverables

• Collaborate with the Global R&D team and assist as needed with initiatives

• Represent WellPet in technical or professional organizations and conferences

• Learn continuously and seek out new technologies or developments in the injection molding, extrusion, and food manufacturing fields

• Live the WellPet & WHIMZEES Vision, Mission and Values and do what it takes for the pets depending on us

Position Requirements:

• BS or MS in Plastics/Polymer, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering

• 5 years of full-time R&D or new process/product development engineering experience

• Technical expertise in plastic injection molding and extrusion

• Prefer but not needed experience with animal nutrition, health, or food products

• Fluency in Dutch and English;

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint; MS Project)

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally
